Why We Do Howardville

There are many reasons riders put their blood, sweat, and gears into a race like Howardville. The pursuit of victory, the joy of spending the day in the great outdoors, an excuse not to wear deodorant (who's going to notice?), whatever.

There is, however, another purpose behind this great event we call the 8 Hours of Howardville. This year we are also making it a fundraiser for a very special person, Ramona Reimer.

For those of you unaware, Ramona was diagnosed with cancer recently. She has been in and out of the hospital (at the time of this writing she's in the emergency room at St. Boniface hospital) ever since. In the face of such adversity, however, she and her husband Earl have been inspiration to people across the globe. We would like to help them financially by asking each team to raise funds for them (in addition to the tournament entry fee). Our target goal is $100 per team, though there is no penalty for not raising that amount. There will hopefully be, however, prizes for the team that raises the most money (we're still working the details on that, more to come once we have confirmation). So feel free to shatter that $100 mark!

If you would like to read more of Ramona and Earl's story, you can check out their blog which is linked on the side of the main page or just click here. There is also an article on-line that was published in the Interlake Spectator here.

So let's see how much we can raise to help them out! Racing is fun, but racing for a cause is so much more gratifying!

It begins!

Good day, humble Internet traveller!

You have had the good fortune to come across the official blog of 8 Hours of Howardville!

What is 8 Hours of Howardville, you say? It's only a mountain biking endurance race of epic proportions, that's what! The race takes place in the "pits" of Howardville, Manitoba. Most likely unless you're from the surrounding area you have no idea where Howardville is, so let's say that it takes place about an hour and a half north of Winnipeg, Manitoba, or a half hour north of Gimli, Manitoba. The race has been taking place for a few years now, and with each year the number of riders keeps growing!

This Blog is YOUR information center for updates on the race! This year this can't-be-missed event will be held on September 30th, with the overnight camp-out starting on the 29th (I don't think anyone will feel like sleeping on the ground after 8 hours of grueling, exhausting...err, really easy mountain biking).

Bookmark us now and check back often for updates! If you have any inquiries/suggestions for us ("Us" so far being Mr. Jay Boaz and Mr. Mark Westman), please send them our way at 8hoursofhowardville@gmail.com

We're looking forward to a great race this year, as I hope you are too!
